Madam’s Nursery

February 26, 2019

You might have recently seen me share on Instagram stories that we put madam’s crib into storage. It was kind of a bittersweet moment for me. I was both excited that this marked a milestone moment of her growth and development, but also sad that my little one is no longer a baby. I was also a little sad to put her crib away because it’s a piece that I fell in love with before I even knew she was a she. Restoration Hardware is a line that I long have loved – from our bed to our dining room chairs, you can find many of their pieces in our home. When planning madam’s nursery, it was only natural that the main pieces would come from their beautiful RH Baby & Child line. With high quality, solid wood pieces, I knew they would be an investment, but also future family heirlooms. While she might have been destined to outgrow her crib, her dresser with the attached changing table component is a piece that can grow with her indefinitely.

As for the rest of the space, I knew that I wanted something soft and feminine, yet not overly juvenile. With hints of florals, animals, and packed with lots of books, I think I created a space for her that is warm, welcoming, and soothing. I also wanted to mix in pieces that were at a range of price points, and even some that we already owned. I decided against a glider, and instead used one half of a pair of antique chairs with the other being in our living room. As for shelving, I kept things simple and wallet-friendly with this sleek piece from Ikea. Not pictured are the anchors that keep it in place, lest a little climber decides to explore.

As for little decor elements, there are prints purchased at Giverny during our French road trip prior to madam’s birth, a painting I found during a long ago trip to New Orleans, and even a ridiculously large giraffe that my brother-in-law may or may not have picked up on a boozy Sunday afternoon during his senior year of University in excitement of his niece’s impending arrival. However, I have to say one of the most special pieces in her nursery is the vintage Louis Vuitton bag. It was my grandmother’s and I even remember being with her when she purchased it. (Quite possibly, that was the moment that my bag obsession was born.) Unfortunately, after many years of loving use, the strap broke in a way that could not be fixed so it has become a decidedly elegant way to store some of madam’s books.

The final part of her nursery that I had installed was this gorgeous custom window treatment from the fabulous C&M Textiles here in Montreal. We went with an elegant pink houndstooth fabric and the team there did a wonderful job of creating this beautiful and integral part of nursery decor. I was so pleased and impressed with the quality of service, work, and price that my parents used them for not only the drapery in their pied-à-terre here in Montreal, but also a gorgeous custom upholstered headboard.

I tried to note and link as many of the sources as possible for the items in madam’s nursery, but if you have any further questions, as always please feel free to reach out via email or Instagram DM. It’s always such a pleasure to connect with you guys!

I enjoy long walks through Neiman Marcus, red soled shoes, skinny black pants, oversized cocktail rings, obnoxious bows, nipped waists and full skirts.

I scooped up the cuff in the early 2000s (hello logo-mania) during a Paris trip and felt so proud of being able to buy it for myself. As for the tights, I messaged my SA as soon as I saw them come down the runway and only now have felt brave enough to take them out of the box 🙈. #chanelxwmf #cccertified #chaneltights #chanelstockings #neverwithoutmychanel #chanellover
